Evaluating a Purchase

Work through a buying decision the way a professional would: shortlist, compare, find break-even, model returns, check the hosting quote, then stress-test it.

Futures vs Shipping Now

Why this step: Build a shortlist from the hardware database using cost per unit of speed.

Scenario

The S23 XP Hyd (8.9 J/TH) is listed as futures; a shipping hydro unit is ~9.5 J/TH.

Open Hardware

Opens in a new tab so you can follow the steps side by side.

Do this

  1. 1Look up both machines on the Hardware page (price, J/TH, est. resale), then compare them side by side in Miner Comparison.
  2. 2Open the Scenario Simulator and add the shipping unit with a purchase date of today.
  3. 3Estimate 4–6 months of profit you would miss waiting for the futures unit.
  4. 4Decide whether the efficiency gain repays that lost time within 24 months.
What you should find (open after trying)

A ~6% efficiency edge rarely repays months of lost production. Futures also carry delivery risk; time in market usually beats waiting for next-gen hardware.
